About Evelyn "Evie"
Wakulenko
pronounced "Walk-a-link-o"
I was born and raised in NW Ohio.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University/Medical College
of Ohio-School of Nursing in 1996. I moved to Utah after graduation,
worked at the University of Utah Hospital and fell in love with
adventure sports and the great outdoors. I have lived in Anchorage
for 11 years. I am an avid biker, skiier, climber, kayaker, camper
- anything to be outside and active. My husband and I have a cabin
in Hope, Alaska and enjoy the quiet and solitude it provides.
I also enjoy spending my time reading, crafting, learning to play
the fiddle and with the many wonderful friends I have made here
in Alaska.
I have worked at the Alaska Native
Medical Center as an RN since 1998. I began in the nurse registry,
worked in the Emergency Room for 3 years and have been in the
Cardiology Department for the past 5 years. I am excited to be
a member of the medical mission team, teaching about stroke awareness
as it is a part of cardiovascular disease. I am eager to see some
of the remote villages that my patients/friends live in and the
Serum Run is an excellent opportunity for me to experience bush
Alaska to gain a deeper understanding of the Native people that
I care for.
